Irish Endurance Cyclist Joe Barr (62) has entered the history books once again with a new World Ultra Cycling Record for the first non–stop cycle along the Wild Atlantic Way.
The first of its kind in Ireland, the gruelling 2343km (1456 miles) cycle from Muff in Co. Donegal to Kinsale in Co. Cork saw Joe complete the route in 127 hours 46mins.
Sponsored by White’s Oats, Joe’s endurance and mental strength were pushed to the limit as he battled adverse weather conditions to complete the gruelling 80,000ft climb, only stopping for one hour every 24hrs. Official verification from the Guinness World Records for the cycle is also due in the coming days.
Speaking after completing the cycle Joe Barr commented:
Danielle McBride, Brand Manager at White’s Oats added:
In 2020 Joe set two new World Ultra–Cycling Association world records when he cycled from the West of Ireland to the East and back again and from North to South and back again. He now uniquely holds all world records in all directions in Ireland.
