Professor of Human Nutrition and Head of the Nutritional Sciences Department at the University of Surrey, Susan Lanham–New shared her knowledge of the influences of diet and exercise on bone health in athletes at the Dairy Council for Northern Ireland’s ‘Milk it for all it’s worth’ Performance Nutrition Seminar held recently at W5.
The seminar presented the latest scientific research and its practical application to an audience of sports nutrition professionals working with young people and outlined the importance of good nutrition for sport and a healthy, active lifestyle.
Joining Professor Lanham–New (middle) was (L–R) Dr Sharon Madigan, Head of Performance Nutrition, Sport Institute Ireland; Holly Rush GB marathon and ultra–distance runner; Renee McGregor, Performance and Clinical Dietitian and Danielle Logue, PhD Researcher, University College Dublin who all gave practical insights into sport nutrition from the performance nutritionist’s and athlete’s perspectives.
Dr Carole Lowis, Nutritionist with the Dairy Council said “At our annual seminar delegates are able to hear first–hand the personal journeys that the speakers have been on, with the view to helping them shape the work they do in their own specialist field. This year’s event again highlighted of the importance of good nutrition for young sportspeople, including for their bone health and the role milk and dairy foods can play in this.”
