McDonald’s at Donegall Place has re-opened its doors this week following a £750,000 investment to transform the restaurant and create a new and exciting customer experience. The restaurant which currently employs 90 staff, will over the coming months create a further 16 full and part time positions.
Digital innovation is at the heart of the transformation which has seen the introduction of a host of customer facing technology. This includes touch screen kiosks which allows customers to browse the menu, order their food and pay by card or contactless. Additionally, free to use tablets have been installed at a number of tables for customers who want to check their newsfeed and emails or play their latest games. The changes also extend through to the kitchen adapting how the food is prepared and served.
Franchisee Paul Connan who operates the Donegall Place restaurant said, “Located in the heart of the City Centre, the Donegall Place restaurant reflects the digital transformation that is at the heart of our new look. The state of the art technology allows us to deliver even quicker service to our customers and the restaurant has been revamped to seat 190 customers.
“As a local businessman I am committed to investing within the local community, so I am delighted to offer our customers an even better experience at the restaurant. Our continued investment in the business enables us to expand our workforce and provide people with a valuable opportunity to work as part of the McDonald’s team.”
The kitchen has also been significantly changed and fitted with a new layout and increased technology meaning that products are made specially to order using freshly prepared ingredients.
All 27 McDonald’s restaurants in Northern Ireland will be fitted with this new technology within the next three years.
McDonald’s opened its first restaurant in Belfast in 1991 and Northern Ireland now has 27 restaurants employing over 2,100 people locally.
