Nutrition and Health – what’s new?

Professor Joline Beulens, VU Medical Center, Amsterdam (left) and Professor Benoit Lamarche, Laval University, Canada, are pictured with Dr Carole Lowis, Dairy Council for Northern Ireland (DCNI) nutritionist at the annual DCNI Nutrition and Health conference.

The conference’s audience of health and education professionals heard the latest developments in nutrition and science practice from six experts on topics ranging from the effect of breakfast consumption on cognitive and academic performance to weight loss after pregnancy and the impact on diet and quality of life of oral health in older people.

Dr Carole Lowis said “The diversity of the topics raised in the 2016 conference has attracted a wide and very engaged audience including dietitians, home-economics teachers, school catering managers, academics and PhD students.  This year’s conference has brought together experts from as far afield as Canada and Amsterdam to share  the most up-to-date research in nutrition science.   The purpose of the conference is to provide the opportunity for those working in nutrition in Northern Ireland to hear the very latest research, and the feedback we have had from delegates is that the information is useful to them in their day to day practice too.”
