McDonald’s Westwood has re-opened its doors after the restaurant has undergone a refurbishment worth up to £500,000 in an exciting transformation that will improve the overall customer experience.  As a result of the revamp, McDonald’s Westwood will also be creating up to 40 new jobs including full and part time positions.

The restaurant is the fourth store in Northern Ireland to undergo an overhaul with the introduction of customer facing technology, which allows customers to order their food and pay at touch screen kiosks. It is also the first chain in Northern Ireland to provide table service for customers ordering via the digital kiosks.

Franchisee Des Lamph who operates Westwood said, “As a local businessman I am committed to investing within the local community, so I am delighted to announce today that we are planning to recruit new crew members.  Our continued investment in the local area enables us to expand our workforce and provide people with a valuable opportunity to work as part of the McDonald’s team which provides a strong foundation and ladder of opportunities to benefit their career.

“Digital innovation is at the heart of the transformation and the new look restaurant features state of the art technology including a touch screen ordering service and enables customers to order food direct to their table, delivering an even quicker service. Additionally, free to use tablets have been installed at some tables for customers who want to check their newsfeed and emails or play their latest games,” concluded Des.

The kitchen has also been significantly changed and fitted with a new layout and increased technology meaning that products are made specially to order using freshly prepared ingredients.

All 27 McDonald’s restaurants in Northern Ireland will be fitted with this new technology within the next three years.

McDonald’s opened its first restaurant in Belfast in 1991 and Northern Ireland now has 27 restaurants employing over 2,300 people locally. McDonald’s also supports a further 1,600 jobs by purchasing goods and services from businesses located here. In Northern Ireland McDonald’s and its suppliers make a combined annual contribution of £79 million to the local economy.
