Free Event Opens Doors to Accountancy Profession

Young people from across Northern Ireland are being encouraged to consider a career in the accounting and finance industry which has grown by 6.2% across the UK (Economia) and plays a vital role in supporting economic recovery, according to ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

ACCA, the global body for professional accountants is hosting a free open evening in Belfast on Tuesday 4th August which is aimed at helping individuals learn about the flexibility and broad opportunities that the accounting profession has to offer. The open evening is one of a series of steps taken by ACCA to equip Northern Ireland’s young people with the skills to become, not just accountants, but future business leaders.

Commenting on the professional opportunities available to current accountancy students, Liz Hughes, head of ACCA Ireland said, “The accountancy profession has a depth and variety of opportunities available both locally and internationally, offering diverse career paths. With the skills shortage in Northern Ireland still a major concern for many businesses, we want to attract talented young people to the accountancy profession and help them to understand what accountants do, how they are trained and the array of jobs that are available.

“We’re encouraging all individuals who may be considering a career in accounting or who would like to advance their career in the finance function, to come along to our free event to hear first-hand from a panel of experts about the flexibility and opportunities that exist within the profession.”

The open evening will take place on Tuesday 4th August from 6 – 8pm at the Ramada Encore, Belfast and will host a range of speakers working within the accountancy profession including representatives from Brightwater who will share industry expertise and knowledge.

Liz Hughes concluded, “ACCA offers a globally transferable qualification and a range of learning and study options including full-time, part-time, evening and weekend courses and distance learning.

“Additionally, ACCA-X online learning is now available for finance and accounting professionals from across Northern Ireland. With two free introductory courses running for 10 weeks, ACCA-X will enable people to gain knowledge that could set them out on a new career path as an accountant, or bolster their knowledge of finance. More than 38,000 online students have already signed up from 201 countries and learners have access to the content for 6 months making them truly accessible and relevant.”
