McDonald’s Head of Northern Ireland Football Pat Jennings has done it all – from scoring a goal from his own box in the 1967 Charity Shield to winning 119 caps for Northern Ireland, the goalkeeping icon has enjoyed a glittering football career.
As a player, Pat won The FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup during successful spells with both Tottenham and Arsenal and also represented his country an incredible 119 times, including appearances at the World Cup in 1982 and 1986.
On September 27th, Pat will join fellow McDonald’s ambassadors and football legends Ian Rush, Sir Geoff Hurst and Eric Harrison as they celebrate the unsung heroes of grassroots football at the 2013 awards ceremony in Derry~Londonderry.
Between them, these football superstars have won the World Cup, the European Cup, set goal scoring records at Liverpool and produced the famous ‘class of ‘92’ at Manchester United.
But on September 27th, the Ambassadors are taking a back seat as they join McDonald’s and the Irish FA to salute our local coaches, clubs and volunteers who have done so much for the game at grassroots level. These are the people who show unbelievable dedication and commitment and do it all for the love of the game, providing the chance to play football in a safe environment and help young players develop their skills.
The McDonald’s Irish FA Community Awards 2013 will take place at The Millennium Forum on 27th September and winners will be announced in nine categories, reflecting the breadth of grassroots football throughout Northern Ireland.
The Awards are an important part of McDonald’s Community Partnership with the Irish FA, a partnership that celebrated ten years in 2012 and is helping young footballers shine. This is delivering a lasting legacy for grassroots football in Northern Ireland through ongoing coach creation and education, a series of regional Small Sided Games Centres and the Club Accreditation Scheme, raising standards for local clubs by ensuring they have appropriate structures in place.
