Competition offers Northern Ireland students the chance to write a short film for cinema screening

Could you be the next Peter Jackson or Steven Spielberg? Creative second level students across Northern Ireland, who have a passion for writing or film, are being called upon to take part in a unique competition that will see two winners have their short story transformed into a mini movie for the big screen later this year.

The Super Short competition, which launched today on www.nibroadband.com, supported by BT and Cinemagic, challenges entrants to write a 500 word story illustrating a way in which fibre broadband helps change life for the better.

The competition is open to young adults between the ages of 12 and 19 and will run until Friday 31st May. Entrants are encouraged to be as creative as possible in illustrating how fibre broadband can transform people’s lives, either by helping someone to make a difference, achieve a dream, overcome a problem or make a connection.

Two winners will be selected from the entries to have their short story transformed into a movie which will be screened at the Cinemagic Gala Awards 2013 and on the www.nibroadband.com. In addition, both winners will have the opportunity to work with industry professionals during a weeklong Cinemagic film workshop in July and will each receive a place at the Talent Lab during the Coca-Cola Cinemagic Film Festival in November. The winners will also receive £100 each worth of iTunes vouchers.

Eight finalists will also be offered places at the Cinemagic Film Festival Talent Lab and the opportunity to be a crew member for the Cinemagic film workshop.

Commenting on the competition, Frank McManus, head of wholesale sales and services in BT Northern Ireland said “The aim of the Super Short competition is to highlight the benefits of fibre broadband and at the same time encourage young adults to think about the ways in which new technology is transforming the world. Northern Ireland is in the privileged position of being at the forefront of fibre broadband availability in Europe, which offers young people here significant opportunities to experience and enjoy the benefits of world class fibre technology.”
