HMV SEASONAL BOOST TO IRISH RETAIL SECTOR WITH 210 NEW JOBSEntertainment & technology retailer creates new fixed-term jobs in time for Christmas

Just over 200 seasonal new jobs have been created by HMV across its network of stores in Ireland to support the build up to the busy Christmas holiday period, the entertainment & technology retailer announced today.

The fixed-term positions will be based across 16 stores around the country, including HMV’s flagship in Dublin’s Grafton Street, Patrick Street in Cork, the Crescent Centre in Limerick and Johnston Court in Sligo.

Many of the new recruits have already started or are about to begin in their new roles, but some positions remain to be finalised, and any interested applicants should check www.hmvcareers.com or visit their local HMV. The positions will generally run through to January 2013, and may in some cases lead to longer-term employment where any permanent positions becoming available.

The last quarter of the year is always a key time for the entertainment & technology sector – when upto 50% of annual demand can take place, and big new releases on CD, DVD/bluray and games, which this year range from Olly Murs, One Direction and Michael Bublé to Mrs Brown’s Boys, Batman: The Dark Knight and Call of Duty: Black Ops II spearheading the retailer’s festive drive along with a growing selection of technology products such as Beats by Dre and Sennheiser headphones, the Google Nexus 7 and Arnova Gbook tablets and wireless speakers and docks from the likes of Samsung and Gear4.  See Notes to Editors for HMV’s top 10 predicted bestsellers/gift recommends.

Speaking about the jobs, Jay Smit, HMV’s General Manager in Ireland, said: “The run up to the Christmas holiday period is an incredibly important time of the year for us, especially as so many fantastic releases come out around this time.   Upto half of the demand that we experience over the course of a year will take place now and over the next few weeks, so it’s vital that our stores are 100% ready and well staffed so we can give the best-possible service to all our customers. Entertainment and technology products always make great Christmas gifts – to give and to receive, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our stores.”
