THERE'S ONLY ONE DIRECTION FOR CALENDAR SALES .....

Early surge in sales of 2013 calendars driven by 1D mania, though Olympics diving hero Tom Daley is also set to make a big splash.

The current top 5 in the year's first glimpse of the best-selling artist calendars for 2013, compiled by HMV and Danilo Promotions, echoes the recent Great British Bake off TV final in that it's very much an all boys affair!

New entries in this first official chart of the year to be published, which, perhaps unsurprisingly, is dominated by global superstars One Direction, include a top five splash by the golden pin-up boy of the diving board, Tom Daley – who himself would have no trouble slipping into the One Direction line-up if ever they were looking for a new member, and a surprise appearance by comedian and actor Keith Lemon. Both individuals are making their Official calendar chart debut and are currently competing with the likes of teen sensation Justin Bieber and the UK's JLS for a top 5 placing - just one spot ahead of the original poster boy – Cliff Richard.

Sales of official 2013 calendars, which are proving a popular Christmas gift purchase, are up by a healthy 10% compared to the same Autumn period a year ago – a positive trend due in large measure to the 'One Direction effect', which also helps explain why the former X-Factor contestants are currently outselling the rest of the top 10 combined.

The boyband, who are already major multi-millionaires according to recent media reports, are enjoying phenomenal sales from a wide range of 1D merchandise, including their 2013 calendar, of course, and with a new album Take Me Home due out on November 12th, it looks like being a bit of a "One Direction Christmas".

HMV Merchandise Buyer, Craig Dodds, comments: " Official Artist calendars always come into their own at this time of year – they're often one of the first things people buy. One Direction topped the Calendar Chart for 2012, and it looks like they have no competition, though HMV are experiencing a demand for Tom Daley's raunchy debut calendar this week, so we may well see a festive surge from him too."Entertainment retailer HMV have produced a list of current top-10 best sellers in conjunction with Europe's No 1 Official Calendar producers
