BT is opening up the online world to consumers across Northern Ireland and this week welcomed its 200,000th home broadband customer. Shopping online is just one of the many things that broadband opens up to consumers, with internet shopping now accounting for around 12% of the total retail spend in the UK.  The significant milestone reaffirms BT’s position as the biggest supplier of broadband in Northern Ireland.

According to Conal Duffy, Consumer Director, “A major communications report issued this week confirms that consumers in Northern Ireland are becoming increasingly technology savvy and the increase in BT’s volume of broadband customers fully supports the findings. It’s a long time since we have been thought of as a ‘telephone company’ and the signing of our 200,000th broadband customer firmly reflects our position as an innovative communications provider leading the way in new technologies. Technologies such as fibre broadband, where we are seeing a significant surge in customer uptake, have helped us to maintain our lead and this is underpinned by the trust that consumers have in BT as a brand.

“Our broadband base in Northern continues to grow and the increase in demand for BT Infinity fibre broadband alone, confirms that we are Northern Ireland’s number one broadband provider.” continued Conal Duffy. “This is not only great news for us but great news for Northern Ireland consumers who are looking for a competitive broadband deal   and a level of service to match.”
